This is a full sized macaque monkey I made. The photos show the work in progress stages. Starting with the masking tape armature that I add the clay to. This monkey has plain black, glass eyes. the clay I used is living doll . The hair is mohair, it is rooted into the wet clay before it is baked.
This is the finished monkey. It is painted with genesis paints which are baked in the oven to set them. The body is made from faux suede
It’s a long time since I made a monkey but I’ve been looking through some old photos and decided to share them on here. I call them monkeys but most of my creation were apes. I’ve created chimps, orangutans, gorillas and various small monkeys. Some of my monkeys are reborn monkeys, made from a vinyl kit which is painted and rooted with mohair. Some of the monkeys are sculpted from polymer clay which is rooted with mohair and painted.
I will try and find photos of my monkeys and post them on here.
The following monkeys are all sculpted from polymer clay. I would use wire, tinfoil and masking tape to make an armature that I added the polymer clay to. My favourite clay was living doll clay.
